This probably sounds familiar…
You’re selling 30 homes a year. Maybe more. You’re one of the top producers at your brokerage. You’re grinding, prospecting, closing, repeating. You are genuinely carrying the building.
So how does your brokerage say thank you?
I’ll tell you how mine used to. A Facebook post. A special parking spot. Martinis at the holiday party. One time my BIC pulled me aside and told me I was handsome. I’m not making that up.
And look — I love a good trophy. At my most unmanaged, I can be a real prince. I know the currency of a prince is acknowledgment. Someone says your name from stage and it sticks with you for a week. That stuff is real and I’m not going to pretend it isn’t.
But at some point you have to stand in front of the mirror and ask yourself an honest question. Is acknowledgment actually building anything for you? Is the parking spot compounding? Is the Facebook post going to fund your retirement?
Here’s what I found when I stopped chasing recognition and started chasing ownership.
At eXp, when you hit your cap as a top producer, your brokerage doesn’t throw you a party. They give you your split back — in shares of stock. Over 80,000 agents in this company participate in that. It’s not a bonus. It’s not a one-time gift. It’s equity. It’s ownership in the machine you helped build.
In 2017 alone (the first year I joined eXp), I received 21,768 shares gifted back to me through the ICON program. That stock today is worth over $200,000. For one year. And my organization is currently closing around 2,000 transactions a month.
So here’s the question I want to leave you with.
Would you rather get a Facebook post from your brokerage — or six figures?
If that made you pause for even a second, we should probably do the math together.
Because the agents who win long-term aren’t the ones with the most trophies on the shelf. They’re the ones who figured out the difference between being appreciated and being compensated. Between being celebrated and being invested in.
One of those things feels good on a Tuesday afternoon. The other one changes your life.
You’ve earned more than a parking spot.
